New Droid RAZR handsets announced by Motorola, one bound for the UK

Nokia isn’t the only company to have announced new phones late yesterday, Motorola has revealed three new Droid RAZR handsets as well.

According to Motorola Mobility’s Rick Osterloh the three new phones are “the fastest devices we’ve ever made.” The handsets, the Droid RAZR HD, Droid Razr Maxx HD and Droid RAZR M, are all being launched in the US through Verizon but at least one of them will be making the jump over the ocean albeit with slightly modified specs.

All of the phones will share the same 1.5GHz Dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 dual-core processors and will all receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system by the end of the year. The RAZR HD has a 4.7″ Super AMOLED HD 1280 x 720 display along with a battery capable of 16 hours talk time, according to Motorola. An 8 megapixel front and 1.3 megapixel rear camera is packed into the RAZR HD as well. The RAZR Maxx HD boasts the same specs as the HD but it will feature more storage and a beefed up battery capable of 21 hours of talk time.

The RAZR M is  the smaller sibling here and will have a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Advanced 960 x 540 display, 8GB of internal storage and a smaller battery than it’s hefty brothers. The RAZR M is expected to be announced for the UK on 18 September at an event. The specs won’t be changing much but a name change is expected to come along with the swapping out of the Snapdragon CPU. An Intel (possibly Medfield) chip will be taking its place. Whether variants of the other handsets will be announced is uncertain but a UK launch would bode well for a South African rollout at a later stage.
