Twitter is adding a “cashtag” functionality to the social media service that functions in a similar manner to conventional hashtags.
Clicking on stock symbols with a $ in front of them ($AAPL, for instance) will show Twitter users the ongoing conversations about the company in question. The change from hashtag to cashtag has been done in order to separate the financial conversations about a company from the general.
For the moment it appears that Twitter is only making actual stock symbols clickable, reports The Next Web, and while the function is live on Twitters web interface now it hasn’t moved over to Tweetdeck just yet.
The new feature is reportedly similar to a service offered by StockTwits, a service which gathers finance-related tweets together in one place.
