Apple to buy fingerprint sensor manufacturer AuthenTec

Manufacturer of fingerprint sensor chips AuthenTec has said that Apple has agreed to buy the company in a deal worth $ 356 million, according to a Reuters report.

AuthenTec makes security-related software and chips that are licensed to companies like Samsung, Dell, Lenovo and Fujitsu in addition to fingerprint recognition chips and hardware related to near-field communication.

The deal between the Cupertino company and AuthenTec was revealed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and will apparently see Apple taking control of around 58% of the hardware manufacturer.

Other companies that AuthenTec has worked with include LG, Motorola and Nokia.
