FNB ships over 80,000 phones and tablets

First National Bank has shipped over 80,000 phones and tablets since the bank started its reduced-rate offers on the devices in late 2011.

The majority of devices sold have been Apple’s iPad and iPad 2, while the latest iPad to issue forth from the Cupertino company in April helping drive a 68% surge in weekly sales.

Ilse Smuts, Head of Marketing at FNB’s Core Banking Services, said “We see great potential in further increasing the number of smartphones and tablets held by FNB customers. We are now distributing about 2 000 units a week.”

FNB has reported that they now have more than 220,000 Banking App users and that transactions totalling around R5 billion have been made through the mobile application to date.

“We will continue to roll-out new offers in line with the new products offered by our partners. At the same time, we will increase consumer awareness of our telecoms offers such as discounted 3G data, free calls and free monthly ADSL data. The next step in our digital roll-out is to make sure our customers fully exploit FNB’s offers via both new devices and data.”
