A new Kickstarter is available that hopes to turn the average iPhone into a retro gaming console. Cascadia Games, the group behind the GameDock project, are looking to raise $50,000 in order to “… assemble a first run of docks as well as well as cover other expenses such as shipping, storage, and so forth.”
“With the GameDock for iOS you can play classic games the way they were meant to be played: with two controllers and a TV. Just plug the dock into your TV like a video game console and your iOS device into the dock like a game cartridge. The GameDock is designed to be compatible with existing iCade games and for dock-ready games that include two-player support and full 1080p HDTV output.”
One of the images on the Kickstarter page shows an iPad hooked up to the GameDock as well but the creators have not made specific mention whether it will be supported. Should users on the go wish to try for a little retro gaming action, a TV doesn’t need to be hooked up for the controllers to work.
The GameDock will likely sell for around $100. This isn’t specified but the Rewards section only starts handing out GameDocks once a donation of $100 or more has been contributed. Throwing $1000 at the project will see your company logo added to the device’s packaging while $10,000 will have Cascadia working on your very own app for the gadget. The Kickstarter will be active for another 42 days and Cascadia are $40,000 short of their goal at the moment.
