Shameel Joosub is Vodacom’s new Group CEO

The Vodacom Group Board announced today that Shameel Joosub will succeed Pieter Uys as Vodacom Group CEO. Uys decided at the end of March this year to step down following 20 years with the company, including four years as CEO. Shameel Joosub’s appointment will take effect from 1 September this year.

Pieter Uys said “I have had a fantastic two decades with Vodacom and will cherish many happy memories. I’m hugely proud of our people: together, we have created a powerful and trusted brand at the centre of our customers’ daily lives. It’s now time for change, and I will leave Vodacom confident that the business will prosper under Shameel’s leadership.”

Shameel Joosub also commented, saying “Vodacom is an outstanding company, and I’m truly excited to be rejoining the team. The business has gone from strength to strength under Pieter’s leadership, providing a robust platform for us to deliver world-class products and services to our customers.” Joosub is currently Chief Executive of Vodafone Spain, a post he took on following a stint on the board and as MD of Vodacom South Africa.
