Android hits 400 million activations, Jelly Bean coming in July

Google announced that the Google I/O event that Android device activations have hit the 400 million mark, with another 1 million being added to the total daily.

Since last year’s I/O event Android activations have jumped by 300 million or so, according to Google Android product management director Hugo Barra. Growth is being seen in the Brazilian and Indian markets, where Android devices are typically the cheaper options.

Also at Google’s event, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) was confirmed for launch some time in mid-July. The updated OS will first roll out to Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola’s Xoom.

New features of the operating system were demoed, with offline voice typing, new methods of arranging icons and a predictive keyboard being the highlights.
