According to a New York Times report Facebook is reportedly working on creating its own smartphone, apparently with the assistance of former Apple engineers.
The report cites unnamed Facebook employees and people who have been briefed on the company’s plans as sources and says that the social network company hopes to have the handset available by next year.
A Facebook employee is quoted as saying “Mark is worried that if he doesn’t create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms”
When queried Facebook did not confirm or deny their possible foray into the hardware market, pointing instead to a previously-release statement that reads: “We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers.”
