Recent figures released by research firm IDC (International Data Corporation) have shown that Android and iOS have got a firm grip on the smartphone market as the operating systems of choice.
Combined the two operating systems comprise 82% of the market share for Q1 2012, with Android taking the lion’s share at 59%. Both are up from last year’s figures at the same time, eating away at Symbian and BlackBerry OS who have both seen significant losses.
Symbian can be found on 6.8% of active devices, down from 26%, while BlackBerry OS has dropped from 13.6% to 6.4% over the past year. Linux and Windows Phone make up 2.3 and 2.2% of the remainder respectively, with both of these operating systems also experiencing minor losses.
