Galaxy S III pre-orders at 9 million units – report

A report in the Korea Economic Daily, quoting an unnamed Samsung executive, has claimed that the upcoming Galaxy S III handset could prove to be the best-selling smartphone from the company yet.

Global pre-orders for the phone are said to stand at 9 million, almost half the number of handsets that Samsung’s Galaxy S II had shipped by February this year. The phone only officially goes on sale later this month, first in Germany on 29 May and then the rest of the world, but Samsung have apparently been cranking out 5 million units a month to keep up with the expected demand.

If you consider that pre-orders of the S III will consume the production run of almost two full months, Samsung’s second quarter is looking very good indeed.
