Mirrors – now powered by Android

Android has spread its tendrils cover much of the connected world but this is probably the first time that bathroom accessories have been touched by Google’s OS.

Japanese company Seraku has demonstrated an Android-powered mirror at Smartphone and Mobile Expo, seen by The Verge, that the company apparently hopes will be utilised at hairdressing salons and pubs. It uses a concealed Android tablet and transmits the visuals to a monitor concealed behind a semitransparent reflective surface. Instead of using a touch interface RF proximity sensors do the interacting, meaning that there would be far less cleaning to do on the screen front.

Seraku’s Android mirror is only a prototype and doesn’t appear to have an official title yet but it might not be long before you can play with a web-enabled mirror at your local drinking establishment.
