The Transformers may be a Hasbro intellectual property but that doesn’t mean that they will remain in the realm of fiction forever if the work of Kenji Ishida and JS Robotics is any indication.
The video below shows the eighth version of a transforming robot that is able to transition from being a car to a humanoid and back again. The robotic miniature is capable of motion in either form using 22 servos that assist in the transformation and locomotion of the the little gadget.
Ishida’s creation is surprisingly articulated for a relatively uncomplicated humanoid robot and watching it shift from car to biped and back again makes us hopeful that one day we’ll be able to get our vehicles to stand up and just walk around a traffic jam. Once it has been scaled up considerably, of course.
