Introducing the Olympus TG-1 iHS

Olympus has added a new camera to their Tough line-up in the form of the TG-1 iHS. But how tough is Tough?

The TG-1 iHS is supposed to be waterproof up to twelve meters, freeze-proof up to -10 degrees Celcius, able to withstand weights of up to 100 kilograms and drops from a height of two meters. The lens is supposed to be scratch-proof and the whole unit is housed in a dust-proof casing.

On the more conventional side of camera features the TG-1 iHS will sport a 12 megapixel 6.17 x 4.55 mm BSI-CMOS sensor and a TruePic VI processor. 4 x optical and digital zoom stands alongside 1080p video recording and a 1/2000 shutter speed. It will also boast a wider-than-normalĀ f2.0 aperture.

The TG-1 iHS is expected to ship to Europe in June and the States a month later. An underwater housing for the camera will also become available in July but there is no word on a South African release date.
