Google bringing automatic translation to Gmail

Google will be taking several features out of Google Labs and opening them up for general consumption. Chief among these is Automatic Message Translation for Gmail but the company will also be releasing Title Tweaks (a change to how emails are listed in the browser tab) and Smart Mute (improvements to muting email threads).

Automatic Message Translation will be rolling out over the next few days to everyone with a Gmail account, according to a blog post by Google Translate product manager Jeff Chin. Users will have the option to translate messages written in a foreign language build into Gmail and will also be able to set their email accounts to “Always Translate” if they receive a large amount of correspondence from other nationalities.

Several other less-popular Google Labs features are also being retired according to Chin, including Mouse Gestures, Inbox Preview and Mail Goggles.
