Nokia, HTC hit on some patent luck

Nokia and HTC have had a ruling by the European Patents Court go in their favour after it was found that a patent being used by German company IPCom to litigate against the two mobile companies was invalid in its current form.

IPCom, which is a holder of numerous mobile patents, has stated that they will appeal the ruling over their patent 100A and said that their patent was valid until there was a final decision made following their appeal. The company said, “Today’s judgment does not impact the successful rulings regarding infringement proceeding against Nokia and HTC in Germany and UK.”

IPCom’s patent 100A deals with a cellular phone’s first connection to a network. The company has previously won court victories over Nokia in Europe
