Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank in Japan is planning on introducing ATMs that forgo the use of cards, replacing them with palm scanners.
The bank will begin a trial run of the machines from September this year, at which time ten banks, a drive-through ATM and two mobile banks will receive the Fujitsu-developed palm scanning ATMs. Users will be able to check balances and deposit and withdraw cash following a successful palm scan, confirmation of their birthday and entry their PIN number.
Japanese banks have reportedly been using finger and palm scanning as an additional security measure on ATMs for some time but Ogaki Kyoritsu will be the first to dispense with ATM cards altogether.
