Japanese brewery unveiling frozen beer foam

Japan’s Kirin Brewing company will reportedly be unveiling a new “Frozen Agitation” beer foam technology in Tokyo.

Normally beer isn’t associated too closely with technology, unless it is preceded by the word ‘ruined’, but Kirin’s “Ichiban Shibori Frozen Draft” is designed to keep beer cold for up to 30 minutes. This is achieved through the use of a special tap that inserts air into the beer’s head and then chills it to -5 degrees Celsius to create a frozen head that winds up looking a lot like soft-serve ice-cream.

Kirin will be trial-running their frozen beer heads from May in Japan but, in the meantime, the rest of the world can get a look at what they’re missing out on.
