Apple is getting greener

Apple is planning on constructing a fuel cell facility in the town of Maiden, North Carolina that will supply power to a data center that supports the company’s iCloud online data storage system.

The iPhone company filed plans for the facility with the North Carolina Utilities Commission late last week. Apple’s project will reportedly become the largest private fuel cell energy project in the United States.

The facility will be built in the same area as Apple’s existing solar farm and will consist of 24 fuel cell modules that will extract hydrogen from natural gas.
