Microsoft, Nokia funding app development program

Microsoft and Nokia will be financing a new mobile app development program at Aalto University in Finland over the next three years. Their aim is to help create applications for the Windows Phone platform.

The two companies will be sharing the cost of the program, called AppCampus, which will see them investing $24 million (just shy of R184 million). The program will start in May this year. When it launches entrepreneurs and  prospective developers will be able to apply for grants.

Successful applicants will be given financial backing, lessons on technical aspects of development and on how to monetize applications. In return they will be required to develop exclusively for Windows Phone for six months.
