Amazon to acquire Kiva Systems

Amazon has announced that they intend to purchase Kiva Systems, a company which specialises in automation systems for distribution centers. The order fulfillment company will cost Amazon $775 million.

Kiva stockholders have already approved the merger that will put their “Mobile-robotic Warehouse Automation System” into Amazon’s hands but the deal is only expected to conclude in Q2 2012.

Amazon.com’s Dave Clark said, “Amazon has long used automation in its fulfillment centers, and Kiva’s technology is another way to improve productivity by bringing the products directly to employees to pick, pack and stow.”
