Sony reveals Xperia sola

Sony have just unveiled a new addition to their Xperia line of handsets, the Xperia sola. Two features of note in this Android phone are the new ‘floating touch’ screen and Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality.

The Xperia sola’s ‘floating touch’ screen allows users to navigate websites by hovering their fingers above the screen. The onscreen cursor will follow a user’s fingers without them ever having to make contact with the screen.

The device is also NFC enabled and will ship with two Xperia SmartTags that have been pre-configured with for several tasks around the home.

“Xperia sola supports NFC pairing, allowing consumers to enjoy great connectivity with other NFC smartphones, applications and services by tapping their smartphones together.”

The more conventional specs are: a 1GHz STE U8500 dual-core CPU, a 5 megapixel camera, an 854 x 480 3.7″ Reality Display screen and 8GB of internal storage. The handset will come standard with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), though an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade will be available.
