Angry Birds gets DIY slingshot controller

Rovio’s Angry Birds series has cemented itself in tech history by being one of the most downloaded and most played apps of all time and a group called mbed, which provides hardware and tools for microcontroller prototyping, have released a recipe on their online Cookbook that allows fans of the game to take their obsession with Angry Birds to the next level.

Players who have mastered the art of demolishing pigs with birds fired from a slingshot can recreate a working USB version of the weapon in their own homes thanks to mbed. The Angry Birds USB slingshot controller is designed to be used on computer versions of the game and emulates a USB mouse. The setup consists on an mbed NXP LPC11U24 ARM microcontroller, a 3-axis accelerometer, a stretch sensor and a USB B connector which are all fitted inside a home-made slingshot.

mbed have done all of the grunt work and have got a step-by-step guide to creating the unit, complete with all of the coding needed, on their site. The slingshot you’ll have to make on your own.
