Light Start – The Gaming Edition: Witcher, FC Primal, MGS V insurance, Death lives, and Battlefront PC

The Witcher 3‘s Hearts of Stone to land next week, here’s the story (such as it is)

You’d have to have a heart of stone to not want to continue the adventures that Witcher Geralt of Rivia has been on with The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Happily, we were promised more and the first expansion, titled Hearts of Stone, lands next week on 13 October. Expect ten hours of story, with new characters (plus a couple old ones), choices and monsters to slay in what looks to be an all-new area. We hope. The launch trailer makes it look as though Geralt will have quite a tough time on his hands. Good.

Far Cry Primal puts a mammoth task in front of you and it looks incredible

Far Cry Primal actually leaked a little ahead of the main announcement but we couldn’t care less about that. An open-world game that puts you in the shoes of a Stone Age hunter named Takkar, who is isolated and who must survive in the wilds (and this is important) without all of the automatic weapons that previous Far Cry games have given players to play with. Why hasn’t anyone done this before? Expect us to go missing with the mammoths, comically-toothed tigers and other prehistoric beasties when FC Primal lands on 23 February next year.

MGS V: That’s a nice FOB you’ve got there, it’d be a shame if something happened to it…

MGS VMetal Gear Solid V is a fantastic game, if a touch distracting (we’re on about 33% completion after around 70 hours) but that’s the single-player aspect. A newly-announced set of features, with comes with the recent launch of Metal Gear Online, might get a little up your nose though. That’s because players are being given the option to insure their FOBs (Forward Operating Base) against raids by other players online. The problem? This insurance will cost players real money and will have to be periodically renewed… Seriously? We’re expected to pay to insure virtual items now? Have Konami morphed into the Mob?

Darksiders 2: Deathfinitive Edition to launch just before Halloween

You played Darksiders, right? How about Darksiders 2? Two totally different games, by the way, with the second game featuring far more RPG elements. And, you know, the Grim Reaper as a protagonist. Well there’s a remake on the way, designed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, for everyone who might have missed it on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Don’t miss it again, okay? You’ll wind up kicking yourself if you do. Darksiders 2: Deathfinitive Edition, which includes all of the downloadable content from the last-gen console release, launches on 27 October.

This is how powerful your PC needs to be to journey to a galaxy far, far away

Despite all of the special edition consoles coming out for Star Wars: Battlefront, there’s really only one way to play this game. And that’s on the PC, in case you were somehow lost. But not everyone is going to be able to do that, because you’re going to need a specific set of hardware in order to get your Hoth on. The details have been revealed by EA’s Origin services and have now been delivered direct to you, with a side of smoked Jar-Jar.
