It’s becoming clear that Sony is developing some sort of handheld device. Whether it’ll be a proper PS6 companion or its own thing entirely is still unknown (we would like a Vita sequel). What we (maybe) know, according to known leaker KeplerL2, is that it’ll outstrip the Xbox Series S, despite its stature.

Of course, until Sony confirms it, take your console leaks with a pinch of salt. But KeplerL2 is a known quantity, if one with a patchy track record. Only six months ago, he claimed that the PS6 was locked in for 2027. That may still technically be true, but it’s still worth scrutinising his PlayStation rumours more thoroughly.

Sony’s getting back in the handheld game

Sony’s PS Portal

Multiple reports reckon the project is known internally as ‘Canis’, so its existence seems all but assured. KeplerL2, chatting on NeoGaf, claims that Canis is “massively ahead” of the Xbox Series S (the puny one) in terms of rasterisation, path tracing, and ray tracing capabilities. The forum was discussing some ‘new’ leaked specs.

Those are courtesy of YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (MLD), whose record is similarly spotty when it comes to Sony. These stem from a leaked AMD presentation, reportedly captured in 2023. That alone casts doubt on the veracity of the claims, but there you go. MLD points to Canis featuring a monolithic 3nm die equipped with four Zen 6C cores. That’s in addition to the console’s supposed 12-20 RDNA 5 Compute Units (between 1.6 and 2.2GHz).

A 12-bus sits up with LPDDR5X 7500 RAM, apparently. As for the bits your dad might understand, the console is believed to be PS4/PS5 backwards compatible, with microSD and SSD storage support, as well as haptic feedback, a touchscreen, and dual microphones. A single USB-C port offers charging and video output. KeplerL2 continued, claiming that it’ll bring about PSSR 3, which itself will outperform DLSS 4.5.

If that’s still true all these months later, and KeplerL2 isn’t wrong, Sony’s got a winner on its hands. The Japanese gaming outfit has allowed Nintendo to control the handheld market for too long, even allowing Microsoft an foot in the door. More competition in the space is always a good thing, even if it ends up costing an arm and a leg.

Samsung has just launched its newest smartphones in South Africa. It’s time to look to the future, then, and that future may include the Galaxy Fold 8 Wide. If the title isn’t enough of a clue, it’s supposed to be a wider version of the Galaxy Fold 8. That one’s supposed to launch later this year, and the Wide incarnation could appear alongside.

As is typical for Samsung, nobody in that hemisphere can keep a secret. Visuals created from the apparently official CAD files for both handsets have appeared on Android Headlines, helped by leaker OnLeaks (it’s in the name).

Fold 8 Wide

The most obvious change to the Samsung Fold 8 Wide would be that it’s.. well, wider. And a touch shorter than Samsung’s main Fold lineup. This will allow the company to field similarly sized screens while offering a very different experience to users. The setup would make the 8 Wide better for media consumption, for a start. Samsung’s handset will measure 123.9 x 161.4 x 4.3mm (up to 4.9mm if you measure bumps) when unfolded, according to the CAD files.

Folded dimensions are 123.9 x 82.2 x 9.8mm, according to the report. That translates to a 5.4in outer display, with a 7.6in interior screen. If you’ve ever held an 8in tablet, you’ll have some idea what to expect.

Other specs are rumoured, but are also fairly easy to guess. They’ll likely also apply, for the most part, to the mainline Galaxy Fold 8. One of Samsung’s custom-tuned Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chips from Qualcomm will live inside. 12GB or 16GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of storage (we’ll likely only see one variant here, if it launches in South Africa at all), and a 5,000mAh battery are expected. These might as well be guesses, but they’re probably also entirely correct. Once the South Korean company settles on a configuration for the year, its subsequent devices follow the pattern closely.

To make space, the Galaxy Fold 8 Wide may drop one of the rear camera sensors. It’s a toss-up as to whether last year’s 10MP telephoto or the 12MP ultrawide is going, but the 200MP main lens from the Fold 7 is probably sticking around. Hey, at least the camera configuration will be different for this one. A bit.

We’ll probably find out more closer to the middle of the year. Usually, the new Folds break cover in July, but there’s talk of Samsung pushing that back to August 2026. It would make sense if Apple winds up launching its long-rumoured foldable iPhone, and it’s just like Samsung to try to muddy the waters that way.

Honor made its new 600 Lite smartphone official a few weeks ago, and now a fresh batch of leaks suggests it’s gearing up for another launch. That’d be the Honor 600 and 600 Pro, as revealed in new leaked renders, along with a couple of specs. If you’re wondering where the brand’s 500 series is, look to China. The fast-moving 600 series will likely see a wider release — like the 400 series from last year.

Bringing Honor to South Africa?

In typical Honor fashion, the leaked 600 and 600 Pro look like little iPhone clones. Apple’s design team is among the best in the biz, and Honor isn’t letting those skills go to waste. This time, it’s ripping off the iPhone 17 Pro; its horizontal camera home being the largest culprit. It’s even available in shades of black, gold, and orange.

On its front sits 6.57in OLED display (1.5K) that’s 120Hz-ready. Both devices feature a Snapdragon 8 chipset under the hood, though exactly which one(s) isn’t known. Gotta keep something for the big reveal, huh? Each includes a 9,000mAh battery, far exceeding the typical capacity for a mid-ranger like this.

Read More: The Honor Magic V6 packs a battery that puts other foldables to shame

That triple rear array houses a 200MP main camera, which appears in both the regular 600 and 600 Pro. The regular 600 gets by with an ultrawide backuo, while the Pro gains a telephoto camera. It sits atop a glass panel, with a metal frame surrounding the edges.

We shouldn’t have to wait long until Honor confirms all the important details, like the chipset, release date, and price. If the leaks are correct, Honor is preparing to unveil the devices in Europe “within the next few weeks”. If the company’s 400 series is anything to go by, the Honor 600 should be in South Africa by June.

Yeah, that’s a speaker dominating the tablet’s rear. Specifically, a ‘JBL 9-unit PRO’ speaker system, if the initial leaks from iF Design are anything to go by. It’s accompanied by a silver ring that serves as a built-in kickstand surrounding the speaker system. If the thought of sparing your arms doesn’t get you in a Netflix-watching mood, you’re probably better off sticking with a regular TV.

We’ll have to wait until Lenovo’s official unveiling (or another leak) before we get a peek inside the thing. We’ve got a pretty good idea of the outside, however, with the Tab Plus Gen 2 sporting a 12.1in 2.5K display — 1in larger than the first tablet. Judging by Blass’ images, the device supports an active stylus. It’s unclear whether one will be included out of the box, though the first tablet’s contents don’t fill us with hope.

The leaks also gave us a look at a couple of accessories, hopefully included in the initial purchase. There’s the ol’ see-through case that’ll be yellow before you can even blink. More enticing is the handbag-like carry case, with a cut-out meant to give the speaker system room to breathe. It seems that Lenovo has also ditched the 3.5mm audio jack, which was present in the last-gen tablet.

Blass, unfortunately, didn’t provide any indication when we might see Lenovo’s creation come to market. Now that the leaks are beginning to pile up, it could be an indication that an official announcement isn’t far off.

We’ve been expecting Samsung’s new mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57, to turn up sometime this month. It’s been that way for months. A new report reckons it has all of the information the South Korean company plans to announce ahead of time.

That’s always fun. The folks at Android Headlines have listed all of the device specs for Samsung’s new crop of mid-rangers. If you’re holding off on a smartphone upgrade (or sidegrade), here’s what you need to know to influence your buying choices.

Great, a Galaxy A37

Samsung’s Galaxy A37 looks set to continue its role as a value proposition for folks who can’t or won’t pay for a Galaxy S. A 6.7in 120Hz 2,340 x 1,080 display is hanging around from the last phone, as are the RAM/storage variants. Based on that, we reckon South Africa is getting the 6GB/128GB version here. An 8GB/256GB version… is a long shot.

Samsung is swapping out Snapdragon for its own Exynos hardware — there’s an Exynos 1480 chipset handling processing this time around. The camera array from the Galaxy A36 is getting a minor upgrade. The rear main sensor (50MP) and the 5MP macro remain from last year. The ultrawide is going up a few megapixels, from 8MP to 12MP. The 12MP front-facer is unchanged.

The battery and charging spec (5,000mAh, 45W wired) is unchanged, but at least the colours are awesome. Literally. The listed shades are: “Awesome Charcoal, Awesome Graygreen, Awesome Lavender, Awesome White.” It’ll likely land at or around R7,500 later this month.

And a Galaxy A57

The Galaxy A57 follows a similar path to the Galaxy A37. The screen remains unchanged, with the same spec as the A37 (and the A36 and A56). Exynos was present here last year, with the new Exynos 1680 stepping in for the 1580. It must be better, since the model number went up by one.

Similar RAM/storage options are available, but South Africa is likely to see the 8GB/256GB version on sale. Last year’s R11,000 launch price is a good starting point for budget guesses. The A57’s camera spec doesn’t appear to have changed at all from last year. Expect a 50MP/12MP ultrawide/5MP macro array and a 12MP front cam. The Galaxy A37 seems to have matching hardware this year, so budget camera fans can probably spend less on Samsung in 2026.

At least there’s a different(ish) lot of ‘awesome’ colour options: “Awesome Gray, Awesome Icyblue, Awesome Lilac, Awesome Navy.”

Or you could just buy Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy A smartphones. There doesn’t seem to be much difference between the (spec) sheets.

Source

Depending on how on the ball Huawei is this week, you should still be able to catch the official store pages for the Band 11 and Band 11 Pro live in the Philippines. The company has a product reveal coming up in Madrid later this week, so it might not be paying super-close attention to its international websites.

Even if the info disappears online before you read this, we’ve still been rummaging around. Everything official on the company’s newest fitness bands has been collected below. You know, just in case.

Band 11, you’re up next

It’s not like this is the first time Huawei’s new Band iteration has shown up online. We already knew most of what the 11 Pro would feature thanks to an earlier leak. But given that the latest info comes via a Huawei website, we can consider the following official.

Both models of Huawei’s hardware will feature a 1.62in 482 x 286 AMOLED screen. They will feature fourteen days of battery, a standard feature for the company’s wearable tech. Both track more than 100 sports, and both are waterproof up to five atmospheres (5ATM). But there are some differences to justify the ‘Pro’ title.

The Huawei Band 11 Pro includes onboard GPS — it’ll still need your phone for connectivity — and it uses an aluminium casing instead of the stock 11’s polymer housing. Previous data suggests that the standard 11 uses a smaller battery. Since it lacks GPS, it’ll still make Huawei’s two-week battery target.

An on-sale date for the company’s bands is also known, but only for the Philippines. It’ll go on sale there on 2 March, a few days after its expected 26 February reveal. Pricing for the Band 11 works out to about R670, while the Pro goes for R1,250. These costs are converted from the source country’s peso pricing. South Africa might get close, but it won’t be an exact match.

The Galaxy A37, joined by the Galaxy A57, initially targeted a mid-February release. Now, a new leak suggests it’s been pushed back into March.

Samsung’s take on budget may be a winner this year

Image: @yabhishekhd on X

It’s easy to see why. Samsung usually likes to get its flagship line-up out from under its feet in January. After January came and went with no Galaxy S26 reveal, it forced the South Korean company to target a February release instead (25 February, if you were wondering). That, in turn, has delayed the Galaxy A57 and A37.

No specific dates were thrown around, but the leaker did reveal several key specs for both devices, like the Exynos 1680 chipset powering the Galaxy A57, or the 6.7in FHD+ AMOLED display attributed to the A37. If the price is right — the leaker didn’t mention any figures — both devices will likely garner some attention.

The mid-range Galaxy A57 includes a 6.6in FHD+ AMOLED screen, with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s joined by a middle-of-the-road 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging. The IP68 rating should keep it safe from most dangers, though the triple-camera set-up comprising a 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide, and 5MP macro may need looking after. A 12MP selfie shooter rounds out the specs we know for the moment.

Then there’s the budget-centric Galaxy A37, carrying an Exynos 1480 chip and the same battery and charging specs as its sibling. It differs from the A57 with a less stellar IP67 rating, and offers an 8MP ultra-wide snapper rather than a 12MP one. It shares the rest of its camera specs with the more expensive Galaxy A57.

They may not come any cheaper than Xiaomi’s Redmi Buds 8 Active, which recently leaked online. The folks over at YTechB got hold of information about the new Redmi buds early. An evolution of the Redmi Buds 8 Lite, the most remarkable thing about them might be the expected price.

Best Buds 8 Active

But first, what you can expect from Xiaomi’s budget line of in-ears. Images of the Buds 8 Active show an open-fit design, similar to Apple’s range of AirPods. There are no silicon tips to jam into your ear-socket, meaning these rely on just… fitting well. 14.2mm drivers provide audio, while dual microphones add wind cancellation and serve for voice calls.

Active noise cancellation is, surprisingly, a feature. Given its expected price, it’s uncertain how good that ANC will be. Battery life is more easily impressive. Each bud uses a 37mAh battery, which promises seven hours of uptime (with ANC off) at a time. With the 475mAh charging case, users should get 37 hours of audio per charge. Again, that is with noise cancelling turned off. Bluetooth 5.4 and USB-C charging are stuffed inside. There doesn’t appear to be a waterproof rating. When you see the price, that’ll make sense.

We’ve seen releases of Redmi’s in-ears in the past, so these may make the trip to Africa. Whether they’ll keep the overseas price of about R380 a pair (€20) remains to be seen, but they likely wouldn’t be much more expensive if they turn up. Launch windows are, for the moment, cloudy in all regions. Launch day is anyone’s guess.

Huawei has a few announcements lurking in our near future. One of those is certainly the Band 11 Pro (likely with a Band 11 to go with it), which has turned up online ahead of anything official coming out. The fitness wearable, aimed at less data-serious users, will include titanium alloy in at least a few models of the upcoming device.

Much of this information comes via leaker Roland Quandt, who has something of a track record. Building on a leak last week, we’ve got a fairly good look at what Huawei’s new casual band is packing. Visuals released look like official product shots, so we’re almost completely convinced that Quandt (and WinFuture.de) has the goods.

Three versions of the Band 11 Pro are coming, using either aluminium or titanium alloy in their casings. The leaks aren’t clear on which models will get which materials, but there will be something new on the build side. The titanium versions will be a shade pricier, of course. Cost estimates suggest about a R400 price difference between the two materials. Whether that’ll hold true in South Africa remains to be seen.

Internals and components have been fairly well detailed. All models will have a 1.62in 482 x 286 AMOLED display with up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. They’ll all share the same IP67 rating, suiting them for workouts and showers. It’s also rated for up to five atmospheres (5ATM), so it should survive a dip in the pool or ocean.

Huawei’s standard 14-day battery sticks around, courtesy of a 300mAh cell, and the company is sticking a GPS inside. Basically, all of the trackers you’ve encountered in previous versions will be present. Improved sensors and software make up the bulk of the changes on that side.

The Huawei Band 11 Pro’s less capable sibling isn’t extensively detailed, but it’s thought to feature similar tech. The lone (known) difference? A 180mAh battery instead of the Pro’s 300mAh.

Launch pricing is expected to start at around R950 (€50), based on overseas pricing. The titanium models, whichever those are, should come in at R1,250 (€70). Given current pricing for the Huawei Band 10 (around R900), that… seems like it’ll translate over to Africa.

We’ve seen the Chinese company’s Magic V5, so now it’s time to check out the Honor Magic V6. It’s not official, yet, though a reveal is expected sometime around 1 March this year. But whether intentionally or not, it has turned up in images from China.

The images, posted on the country’s Weibo social media platform, show Hong Kong actor/singer Nicholas Tse handling the upcoming handset.

Magic V6 engine

Actual details of the upcoming folding smartphone are less apparent, even though we can see it very clearly in the Chinese images. Honor’s boast last time around was that the Magic V5 was the world’s thinnest. We expect the company to attempt to retain that crown. Expect an unfolded width of less than 4.1mm when the V6 goes official.

Inside are expected to be Qualcomm’s latest premium chipset and a 200MP camera sensor. Where that sensor will go and what will accompany it is anybody’s guess. Is it the main? A telephoto? We’d be guessing at this point, but current chatter suggests that the 200MP will be the main camera. It’ll be supported by a 3x telephoto, with the megapixel count unknown for that one.

A 7,150mAh battery is also being talked about, though how Honor would stuff such a thing into its Magic V6 is a real head-scratcher. It’s been claimed that only one version of the phone will feature that super-thin profile, with the other models increasing the thickness to accommodate a larger battery. Turns out, the only way to have your cake and eat it, too, is to make two cakes.

The red hue seen in these Chinese images could well be called Red Hare. Black, white, and gold versions (Velvet Black, Snow White, and Sunrise Gold, apparently) are also expected. The phone’s full reveal is expected during, or just before, this year’s Mobile World Congress. It should be a Magic-al presentation (sorry, we’ll show ourselves out).
