Samsung’s well on its way to complete its bounce-back from 2016, with their new Galaxy S8 handset selling in excess of 5 million phones since launch. We already knew that Samsung was having a good year but we didn’t have anything more than vague percentages to back that up. 5 million, though… that’s a serious number for a phone that has been on the market for about six weeks or so.
How do we know this, though? A Korea-based Samsung representative, speaking to The Investor, said “Although we cannot provide detailed figures, the sales are going smoothly around the globe. The combined sales already are beyond 5 million units.” They do sound excited, don’t they?
The phone has only been on sale since the end of March this year and the S8 still has a few more markets to debut in, including China, meaning that sales might be accelerating rather than tapering off. Analysts are expecting Samsung to sell more than 20 million units before the end of the second quarter and the S8 might even see a record breaking total of more than 60 million phones sold this year. Samsung would certainly like that last bit to be accurate.
We’ve been spending some time with the Galaxy S8, perhaps more than is comfortable for the phone, so expect our hands-on impressions to be appearing extremely soon.
