The annual Rush eSports tournament will take place at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria (yes, the location has changed) from 29 June to 1 July 2018. If you’ve been on the fence about putting your Fortnite skills to the test, gather all of the self-confidence you can muster and get into that bus right now.
Rush will host a range of competitive tournaments for casual gamers and eSports fans to participate in or watch. If you’re not confident in your online gaming skills yet, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the world of competitive gaming live. Perhaps you’ll get a taste for it.
Vodacom 4U has been announced as the first official sponsor and will host three major tournaments at Rush on PC, console and mobile platforms across three stages. They’ve really tried to incorporate everyone, even mobile gamers. Which means even the ‘I game on my iPhone’ guys have a fighting chance… and a good reason to attend. The three tournaments
- Fortnite 1 vs. 1 on mobile — For people who like getting on busses and shooting their friends
- FIFA 18 1 vs. 1 on PS4 — For those who like kicking a ball around without the necessary stamina to do it IRL.
- CS:GO 5 vs. 5 on PC — For old-school gamers who know how to handle a real terrorist situation.
As you’ve probably noticed, the first Fortnite tournament to be announced is on mobile and will be in the 1 vs. 1 format. So if you own an iOS device, you better start putting some hours into your training. This could be a big one, considering Fortnite is putting out big bucks for eSports tournaments this year. (Come on HiRez, we need Fortnite for Android ASAP)
Registrations for the tournaments opens on Friday 1 June on the Rush website. If you’re a competitor, entrance to the tournaments will be free, anyone watching from the sidelines (your bestie, boyfriend, grandma) will be required to pay an entrance fee.
