There’s still a long way to go until launch, but the Galaxy Note 6 (or should that be Note 7) is looking pretty tasty in these leaked renders.
The pics, leaked to USwitch by supply chain-spying @onleaks, are the best look yet at Samsung’s upcoming phablet king, showing off some clear design heritage from the Galaxy S7. Are the similarities so striking that Samsung’s going to ignore numerical order and launch it as the Note 7? That’s still a mystery.
Everything else seems to have been laid bare by the leaks, though. The curved screen looks almost identical to the Galaxy S7 Edge, but the stylus slot in the bottom means there’s no mistaking this for anything other than a Galaxy Note.
It doesn’t look like you’ll be digging the digital pencil out with a fingernail this time around. The renders show the stylus sitting flush to the phone, so we’re expecting some kind of spring-loaded release. Which can only mean one thing: weaponised Galaxy Note videos hitting YouTube about five minutes after the thing goes on sale.
We’ve spotted a USB Type-C port at the bottom, too. That’s a first for Samsung, and should mean faster charging and quicker file transfers too.
There are a few extra sensors at the top of the phone as well – too many to be for the front-facing camera.
According to the leak, they’re biometric sensors for unlocking your phone without actually tapping in a password. The home button doesn’t seem to have changed, so probably still doubles as a fingerprint sensor, but iris scanning would definitely be an extra layer of convenience.
At roughly 154x74x8mm, the new Note is ever-so-slightly thicker yet narrower than the outgoing Note 5, and larger than the Galaxy S7 Edge all round. Possibly to squeeze in a larger screen, which should be either 5.7in or 5.8in with those fancy curved bits on the sides.
Internal specs are still unknown, but there might not be too long to wait to find out: ex-@EVleaks Evan Blass reckons we’re only two months away from an official launch, a month earlier than Samsung’s usual IFA event.
