Now that Nokia is back and making friends again, the company doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all. We’ve seen that the company’s phones are coming screaming into SA (at a decent enough price for the 3, 5, and 6) and now there’s the Nokia 8 to worry about.
Which, if we’re being totally honest, we were not expecting. What we were looking for was the Nokia 9, the company’s rumoured flagship, but it seems that we were off by a digit. But the image above, first shared by noted smartphone leaker Evan Blass, is being called the Nokia 8 and if Evan says it, we believe it. But we won’t have to wait long for official confirmation — there is apparently a 31 July announcement on the cards.
When the handset is made official the Nokia 8 is expected to feature a Snapdragon 835 processor, either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, a dual 13MP camera setup (featuring Zeiss optics), and a 5.3in QHD display — which is a set of flagship specs if ever we’ve seen any. If the reported hardware is spot-on then the Nokia will have what it takes to take on the current smartphone leaders — on a power level, anyway. The image above shows that they’ve still got a ways to go on the design side.
What it should do right is the pricing. A Scandinavian price leak puts the overseas price for the Nokia 8 at around R8,750 — which will hopefully edge it into the South African market at less than R10,000 — some R5,000 less than Samsung’s speedy S8.
