LG V40 ThinQ info leaks, and it has five camera sensors

Looks like we’re steadily approaching a future where every smartphone is essentially covered in camera sensors (like the nine found on the Light smartphone). In a new leak, we see the upcoming LG V40 ThinQ sporting a total of five camera sensors. Five! That’s almost as silly as its name.

Mobile industry insider and serial leaker Evan Blass posted images of the next LG flagship on Twitter. While it looks like the V30 and the G7 ThinQ got freaky and produced this device, there is an evident upgrade — its shooting power.

In the leaked image, we can barely see it, but there’s a notch lurking up top, disguised by a black status bar. The notch will store all the components necessary for the double front camera sensors and probably the necessary kit for some facial recognition smarts. We are looking forward to the reintroduction of a wide-angle selfie camera after LG opted to drop it for the G7 (though it was on the V30, so we’re not really surprised to see it on a V-series device again).

Aside from the edge-to-edge screen and the sneaky notch, the triple-camera setup around the back should feature a 20MP primary lens, a 16MP wide-angle lens, and a 13MP telephoto lens. We’ve loved LG’s wide-angle cameras since they first showed up on the G5… but we also like the telephoto cameras on recent, well, everythings, so we’re pretty excited at the prospect of having the best of both worlds in the V40.

We’re not sure what the “soft touch” allusion in the Korean teaser video below means, but maybe it’s a 3D Touch-like function, or perhaps there are squishy sides of the sort HTC pioneered. We’ll have to wait and see.

Inside, LG’s new powerhouse phablet should also have a Snapdragon 845 processor, a dedicated Google Assistant button on the side, and a fingerprint scanner on the back. We don’t have more details about the internals at this stage. But we know that the V40 ThinQ will officially be announced on 3 October in New York City. We’ll have more info for you then, or as it leaks.
