HDMI Licensing has just officially announced HDMI 2.0, just after it was leaked by Panasonic. HDMI 2.0 looks to be very impressive; with a bandwith capacity of up to 18 Gbps it can transfer 3,840 x 2,160 resolution video at up to 60fps. It will also be able to support up to 32 audio channels. The connector itself will stay unchanged, which is good for backwards compatibility. The cables won’t change either, as the current high-speed Category 2 wires can handle the increased bandwidth, according to HDMI Licensing.
