Here at Stuff Magazine, we like technology. We like it so much, in fact, that we will even use tech for activities that we’re less than enamoured with. Like cycling. We don’t like pushing a bicycle around for hours at a time but we will, because we get to play with carbon fibre frames, Garmin watches and bike GPS units. So we’re understandably interested in the Standard Bank Africa Cycle Fair, which kicks off in Johannesburg this coming weekend.
On the cards are a range of exhibitors, from local outfits who bring in brands like Banshee, BMC, Giant, Santa Cruz and more, to bike specific tech on show. Think carbon, GPS, lighting, cleaning materials, health and fitness, and generalised kit.
Two events will also be taking place at the Africa Cycle Fair: An interprovincial schools MTB event set to take place on Saturday, 24 October, as well as an unofficial South African cyclocross championship event scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon. There might be beer. For the adult’s race, that is. Not the kid’s one.
This year the Africa Cycle Fair will be hosted at St Stithians College and runs from Friday, 23 October, to Sunday, 25 October, but you’ll need to know your times if you’re planning on being in attendance. Friday the Fair runs from 11:00 to 18:00, Saturday you’ll gain admission from 9:00 to 17:00 and Sunday closes off early, from 9:00 to 16:00.
