Another day, another Samsung smartphone leak. This time it looks like the Galaxy S5 Active is getting an update ahead of the upcoming Galaxy S6’s release date. The Active line, with its waterproof and dustproof features, is aimed at users who want their phones to withstand the various beatings that life can throw at it. While it seems pretty certain that the S6 Active is coming, the leaks haven’t quite been consistent. A few days ago, it was said to have a 5.5-inch screen but the latest claim is that it will have the same 5.1-inch QHD (2,569 x 1,440)…

The next LG flagship phone looks to be a month or two away, but we may have just had our first look at it. Twitter account @OnLeaks has posted what it claims is a “early (non-final)” official press image of the LG G4, along with the smartphone’s dimensions: 148.9 x 76.5 x 9.9mm. The mention of “non-final” leads us to assume that the G4’s design could change in the coming weeks, but the image suggests that it’ll take more than a few cues from its predecessors the G2 and G3: a metal-look plastic exterior; dual-tone LED flash; and a power…

Apple’s latest Big Event was a two-hour feast of information. Far from just getting the full details about the Apple Watch, we were introduced to a new, and very exciting, MacBook, saw some rather cool Watch apps, met Apple’s new ResearchKit scheme and lusted after the HBO Now streaming service. Unusually for Apple it was actually a fairly tight and taut presentation, with little of the forced humour of recent events and plenty of detail to digest. And digest it is just what we’ve done below. So here are the 11 tastiest morsels or information we gleaned from tonight’s event.…

The 12in Retina MacBook is real, it’s called simple “MacBook”, and it’s a good deal more exciting than we were expecting. Yes, it’s beautiful, especially in the gold finish shown on-stage during the launch (it’s also available in Space Grey and Silver, of course), and that’s largely due to all-metal chassis and quite breathtaking slimness. This is just 13.1mm thick – 24% thinner than the existing MacBook Air – and it weighs just 907g. THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT The keyboard has had some serious love. It’s thinner, but full-size. In fact, each key has a 17% larger surface area – the…

Cardboard might be a silly (but admittedly fun and amusing) first foray into virtual reality, but Google has more serious ambitions in the space: to have Android be the operating system of choice for many more VR experiences. Sure, Android is used on the phones you slot into the Cardboard viewer (pictured), and it’s the OS powering the Galaxy Note 4 that powers Samsung’s Gear VR. Same for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge that will work with the upcoming smaller version of the Gear VR. But it sounds like Google wants to do more in the space, and be…

Do you feel it? The excitement fizzing in the air? A vague tingling in your wrist? An Apple event is coming this evening and it’s about time. But what delicate pearls of wisdom will Tim Cook and his team hand down this evening? Here’s what we’re hoping to find out… When and where we can get an Apple Watch Apple may have clued us in to the existence of the Apple Watch last year, but it’s kept the particulars quiet. We want to know when it’s going to go on sale – our best guess based on iPhone and iPad…

It looks like a smartphone of some description is about to join the Sony-less Vaio line-up. Sony sold off the struggling Vaio arm in early 2014 and the Japanese Industrial Partners (JIP) revived the brand with a couple of spiffy new laptops last month. But now it looks as though JIP has its sights set on the smartphone world. Execs from the company have been showing off the box (above) but we’re not just basing this speculation on a bit of cardboard – no siree – there’s also word of some certification from the Japanese authorities about a device known…

The Apple Watch will be appearing soon it seems, with an event today, Monday 9th March, almost certainly focussing on its unveiling ahead of an April on-sale date. In the meantime, Apple has allowed partners to work on the apps for the watch at its headquarters. Social network giant Facebook has been spotted at Apple’s secret labs, along with BMW and United Continental Holdings, says Bloomberg. The secret Apple Watch lab has no internet, no clearance for outside materials and even the app source code created isn’t allowed to leave the premises. Android Wear killer? Apple has also been busy,…

While we were blessed with the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet at MWC, its Z4 smartphone counterpart was noticeably absent. Sony’s still keeping its lips pressed firmly together regarding an actual launch date, but a fresh set of leaks has given Android fans something to nibble on for the time being. The latest information to slip through Sony’s Net of Silence are shots of an allegedly genuine Z4 chassis, which shows off a very similar design to the company’s past Xperia flagships, with a square, ‘Omnibalance design’ clearly visible. The most interesting change is the absence of the pesky microUSB flap.…

The latest rumour being ground out of the Apple mill is that a waterproof iPhone 6s will come with 2GB of RAM and Apple’s own proprietary SIM card. We know SIM card rumours really get you going so we’ll start with that: Apple is looking into pre-installing its own SIM as it did in places with the iPad Air 2, the idea being that you then sign up to a network from within the Settings app and can switch whenever you fancy. That might be working for the iPad, but it could be a bit messier for phones given that…
