My gamertag is more useful than a business card. I write about the tech industry, hardware, software, games, and motoring.

Many game streamers already use Facebook Live to stream their favourite pastime out to the digital world. Now Facebook has launched a dedicated hub for streamers, called Gaming Video, that sorts streams by the game titles you already follow. Game streaming has gained traction as more and more people have begun spectating online. This has given players the online platform to become more than just gamers, but community leaders. Good ol’ Facebook newly-launched Gaming Video compiles game streams in a central location where spectators can search for certain games, or follow their favourite games. Front and centre in the hub are popular titles…

The first African Comic Convention is almost due (okay, it’s only in September, but we’re excited) and Reed Exhibitions Africa has just announced the addition of Kevin Sussman — the quirky comic bookstore owner Stuart Bloom in Big Bang Theory — to their list of celebrity guests attending Comic Con Africa 2018. After seeing this strange comic store-dweller interacting with his geeky counterparts, many have found solace in being outcasts. The new kid on the mobile service provider block, LTE-A group Rain, has launched new promotional, unlimited mobile data deals that don’t expire. Because non-expiry of data is very cool in Icasa’s book. And it’s pretty cool in our book, too. Imagine buying a pack of Simba chips and once you’ve finished just half of it, someone from the Spar shows up at your house to take it back. Even though you paid full price for the chips! That’s what Icasa wants to prohibit mobile service providers from doing. Rain wants you to eat all your chips, no matter how…

Many gamers seem divided but just as smartphones are getting larger, gaming consoles are getting smaller. The next logical step in this evolution is a combination of the two — “Fusioooon, ha!” PUBG and Fortnite are already on mobile, and Razer got the early worm in this generation of gaming smartphones, but now Asus has entered the game and they’ve currently got the high score in our books. Asus unveiled their ROG Phone at Computex this year, its first-ever handset made specifically with gaming in mind. Unsurprising, given the device is part of the Republic of Gamers stable The handset…

Epic Games is trying to be truly inclusive, by giving all gamers the ability to play their battle royale game mode, no matter the platform. It seems as though Fortnite will be parachuting on to Nintendo Switch, a move that will most likely be confirmed at E3 next week. How do we know? Fortnite was spotted on an apparent E3 list which was leaked to 4chan’s /v/ board on Friday. The list was initially created by a Korean ratings board, as was noted in a Restera post and reported by Eurogamer. The leak features some more interesting titles that are apparently heading…

Start practising those Spartan kicks, because Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been confirmed by Ubisoft as the next entry in the open-world franchise. The confirmation comes just hours after an image of the game’s name and logo were leaked and spread online on a keychain. The game was first listed in the recent Walmart Canada leak, which outed a new Assassin’s Creed title without giving any specifics. It has now been confirmed, along with the name of the next instalment of our favourite stabby assassination title. The image that spilled the beans (one of which can be seen here) was of a collectible…

Ever sit in your local RocoMamas and wonder, “Where can I find this playlist?” Because, well, while RocoMamas is known for burgers, beers, orange décor primarily, regulars will tell you it also tends to play fun tunes. This after customers started tweeting at them variations of: “@RocoMamas, where can I download your restaurant’s tracks?”  “It’s a request we receive regularly on Twitter and our various social media platforms”, says Brian Altriche, RocoMamas’ founder. And it’s a request that they’ve decided to respond…
