Instagram is testing a feature that allows users to ask their followers questions and receive answers. You’ve probably seen the ‘Polls’ and ‘Rating’ stickers/sliders… we suspect the new feature will be similar. The world’s favourite image-sharing service has been in the news quite a lot lately, releasing a new long-video format feature and a standalone app for it called IGTV, and announcing that it’s now got over 1 billion active users. They also launched the option to add music to Stories for some users (not us, yet, sadly). Android Police reported that testers at Instagram are currently testing all sorts of…

South Africans haven’t really had the honour of the Honor range of devices yet, but now a couple of Huawei’s budget devices have made their way to Mzansi. The fancier of these is the Honor 7X. We say fancier, but it’s still carrying a not very fancy recommended price of R5,000. After a few weeks playing with it we can confidently say it’s one of the best budget devices available on the market. With impressive hardware, decent software, and a display and camera way ahead of its price range, this is definitely a smartphone for anyone who can’t — or…

Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, recently tweeted that he uses iOS Notes on a daily basis, an app that is free on iPhones, iPads and Macs. He said he mainly uses the app to “think through stuff, draft, remind, record, and doodle”. It’s intriguing that the CEO of one of the largest social media platforms in the world would use (and freely promote) a basic app that came preinstalled on his iPhone. https://twitter.com/jack/status/1012428138326851585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1012428138326851585&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.businessinsider.com%2Ftwitter-jack-dorsey-productivity-app-apple-notes-2018-6 Go ahead and type ‘notes’ into the App/Play store, and you’ll see the massive range note taking apps available, not to mention the ones that come…

We’ve all been in that awkward situation where you need to unfollow certain friends or stay away from social media completely in a bid to miss Game of Thrones episode spoilers. Well, Facebook  is now testing the option to “snooze” specific keywords so you won’t see them for 30 days in your News Feed or Groups. It’s only rolling out to a small number of users so far. You know how these thing go… Facebook wants to make sure people can use it for good and not take advantage of the feature to do something obnoxious or evil — or, more…

Around this time of the year, rumours start trickling in little by little, and we’re already receiving some juicy ones about the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S10. We already know the Note 9 will be announced on 9 August in New York (we’ve collected all the rumours on that over here). Now, with the S10 on its way (it’ll probably only actually arrive in early 2019), the beautifully crafted S8 is suddenly feeling kind of old… Samsung is reportedly developing three different models in the S10 range, which will most likely include a ‘budget’ version, the mid-range flagship and the larger ‘plus’ model…

Segway-Ninebot, the company behind the first properly practical electric personal transport devices, has previewed a pair of alien-like rollerblades called the Segway Drift W1. They’re part of the company’s new e-Skates category, and we need to get our hands — and feet — on some. Unfortunately, they’ll only be announced officially at IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) in Berlin on 30 August 2018. We’ve previously seen Segway products come in via the iStore. We’ll let you know if we hear anything from them about these coming our way. You’ll remember Segway as the maker of the most ridiculed people carriers on earth.…

Apple has been a busy little corporation, and is rumoured to be plotting sneaky acquisitions and service bundle schemes behind the scenes. The planned streaming service could bundle streaming video with a subscription to magazines, Apple Music, and iCloud storage. According to multiple sources, Apple wants to create a single subscription offering that would encompass its original TV shows, music service and magazine articles. This after a few acquisitions by the corporation raised a few flags, and people started to put the pieces together. The move comes at the perfect time for streaming — with most major TV networks rolling…

Earlier this year we saw LG’s notch-bearing addition to their smartphone lineup, the G7 ThinQ, and it’s just about time for the new V-series increment to drop. We’ve only heard rumours so far, not enough to even know the actual name of this device, but to keep it simple (and perhaps accurate) we’re calling it the V40.  The expected V40 is rumoured to have a total of five camera sensors, according to the folks at Android Police who have an inside man, or secret ninja or something. In either case, they have the scoop. Their informant confirms that LG is…

You’d be forgiven for thinking Apple only makes iPhones. It doesn’t, it also makes a bunch of accessories for those handsets, and, you know, the iPads, Macs and other kit it sells. Key among its accessories is the audio category. Apple spent $3bn acquiring audio hardware company Beats in 2014, after all. Also, in the age of the phones without audio jacks and smart speakers, audio hardware is one of the areas still ripe for innovation… and sales. Rumours are beginning to swirl that Apple’s doubling down on audio gear, with at least some of the new kit expected to…

Distract your children, or at least make sure you get to Sandton City before them because the first officially-certified Lego store will be opening there at the end of July, along with an online store which will follow at a later date. Do you want to build a Deathstar? Just… no elbowing kids out the way to get to the counter, okay? The brand new store, set to open its doors on 28 July this year, is the first Lego Certified Store on the African continent (the capital letters are intentional: It’s like having a Lego PhD). Our store will be…
