My gamertag is more useful than a business card. I write about the tech industry, hardware, software, games, and motoring.

Time to delete all those unplayed PlayStation Plus games you’re keeping around for no reason, because the Red Dead Redemption 2 installation will fill your console to the brim. And it’s going to be even more painful if you’re the type to download your games.  RDR2 is finally dropping next month, and a new picture of the PS4 Pro bundle box has revealed some of what’s in store for the coming launch. The box refers to a “timed exclusive for 30 days” and mentions online content. So PlayStation users will have access to some unique content, and now we also…

You’ve got to give it to Fujifilm, it sure knows how to grab headlines. While Canon and Nikon are announcing full-frame mirrorless cameras, Fuji’s giving that a skip and doubling down on its mirrorless APS-C and medium format (MF) lineups instead. Remember the GFX 50S mirrorless MF that redefined what a medium-format camera could be? Well, now Fujifilm’s made an even more portable version of it, featuring pretty much the same internals crammed into a rangefinder-style body, and it’s called the GFX 50R. Okay, Fujifilm hasn’t merely squeezed the 50S into a smaller body, it has also included a few…

Microsoft’s Xbox One will soon support mice and keyboards as input devices for selected games. Hear that, PC master race? Now, hopefully console players will be able to keep up with their PC buddies in crossover games like Fortnite. The extra peripheral functionality will only be available on titles where developers decide to build it into the game — this means it is completely up to developers whether this feature will be available or not. You won’t be able to swap your controller for a mouse and keyboard on just any game. The first title that’ll receive the functionality is…

Google Maps will now let a group of people decide where to eat out, based on a shareable list of restaurants, bars, or clubs (that users will be able to curate themselves). No more back and forth arguing with your buddies in a parking lot about where to eat tonight. The Group Planning feature will roll out starting this week, and will allow users to add restaurant options to a list that is then shared via any messaging platform, say WhatsApp or Telegram. People in the group message can then add or remove ideas, after which everyone can vote in…

Sony is finally enabling cross-play for Fortnite today. Yup. Really. The PlayStation 4 manufacturer previously blocked cross-play and progression between PS4 and Nintendo Switch and Xbox One for massively popular battle royale game, Fortnite. People were angry — like real angry — because you couldn’t link a Epic Games account that’s previously been linked to a PS4, to a Nintendo Switch. Which means many players had to create new accounts. What’s worse is that you couldn’t join in a friendly game of Last Man Standing with friends who play either on Xbox, Switch or Mac (PC cross play was already…

The co-founders of the world’s favourite image-sharing social platform, Instagram, announced that they will leave the company in the coming months — making it the second Facebook-acquired company to lose a founder after WhatsApp’s Jan Koum resigned earlier this year. Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger published a blog post confirming their resignation, and said that they plan to take some time off and “explore their creativity and curiosity” before they embark on new ventures. Though the blog post is very diplomatic and says nothing of feuds with Facebook head honcho Mark Zuckerberg, rumours suggest growing animosity between the Insta founders…

Shazam is probably one of the more innovative apps available. Pretty much every person who has listened to music in a public space has thought “I wonder what this song is called?” at some stage and Shazam neatly stepped in to provide solutions to those musings. Obviously Apple feels the same way, because it has officially completed its acquisition of Shazam. The company confirmed it was buying Shazam for a reported $400 million in December 2017. Of course, it was held up because of an investigation by the European Union, but regulators gave it the thumbs up earlier this month.…

The previous Huawei reveal had most phone manufacturers up in arms — three camera sensors? Are they mad? Turns out the Huawei P20 Pro is still one of our favourite handsets from 2018, which is why we are really amped for the upcoming Mate 20 Pro announcement set for 16 October in London, England. The rumour mill suggests October’s launch event will present us with three new Huawei handsets — the Mate 20 Lite (which has already been announced), the Mate 20, and the higher-end Mate 20 Pro. On the subject of the Mate 20 Pro specifically, a new leak…

Okay, okay… we know PlayStation Now isn’t available in South Africa yet, but we’re being preemptive here. Sony is expanding the PlayStation Now stream-gaming service to allow users to download older PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 4 games. While PS Now is available on PC and PS4, the download option will only be available on PS4 systems. According to the PlayStation blog, ‘almost all’ PS4 games that are already available in the PlayStation Now service will be downloadable, noting Bloodborne and Until Dawn among the examples of high-profile downloadable titles. Normally, you would just stream-play games over an internet connection, but…

Our fave music streaming app, Spotify, has announced that selected independent artists will be able to upload their music directly to the service, which bypasses the need for third-party distributors that to date have been the only way for indies to get their material on the world’s biggest music-streaming platform. The new feature is available through the standalone Spotify for Artists app and will launch in beta today for a ‘selected group of artists’. This doesn’t mean the process will be as easy as publishing music directly on the platform (like you can on, say, Soundcloud) — there’s still a process…
