The South African Twitter community is still in denial over MTN discontinuing their ‘unlimited free Twitter’ option late in September. But it’s time to come back from the corner of denial known as Instagram, because Twitter really cares about its users. https://twitter.com/MTNza/status/1043410260474687493 Following the most recent update, the Twitter app for iOS and Android includes a ‘Data Saver’ mode, which will allow you to scroll mindlessly using significantly less data. Other than free MTN Twitter, the only way to save data on the social media platform was to either install Twitter Lite or rely on the mobile web version. Both…

Instagram was down for this morning and half the world’s smartphone-using population didn’t know where to post pictures of their lightly fried kale anymore. This according to reports on (other) social media platforms from users who were unable to access the image-sharing service. The outage was pretty wide-spread across the globe and included South Africa. This after ex-Facebook exec, Adam Mosseri, took over the boss’s desk following the resignation of the two founders. Netflix is reportedly working on interactive episodes, according to a new report from Bloomberg. They are creating a series of projects that will allow viewers to control the storyline in a TV show or movie, most notably (at least) one in an upcoming episode of Black Mirror. We…

For anything and everything camera and photography related, Germany’s Photokina is the event to watch. This year’s event had plenty of fascinating pic(k)s. These are the best of them. Zeiss’ ZX1 is Lightroom-compatible Zeiss unveiled an Android-based compact camera capable of running Lightroom last week. Talk about an all-in-one system. The ZX1 has a 37.4MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a 35mm/f2 lens in a compact body. The camera has 512GB of internal storage but has no memory card slot for expandable memory… still, as that’s bigger than any of the SD cards we own, we’re not complaining. It mixes physical…

By now, everyone should know that Facebook uses your personal information to personalise ads especially for you — but instead of feeling flattered, people feel their privacy has been invaded. With good reason… because now we know that if you choose to (sensibly) add two-factor authentication via your phone number, Facebook uses that same phone number to help target ads at you. For example, if you include your mobile number in your profile, and you also provided your number to an online store, the two numbers can be matched so the store can identify you as a customer. You know…
