Samsung really does want to be everywhere that the technology is. A report from tech website Engadget claims that the South Korean company will be taking a crack at the latest popular front as well as attempting to take over the world with mobile devices. That’s right, Samsung apparently has a virtual reality headset in the works. Engadget’s report cites “sources close to Samsung” who say that the company is planning on announcing a VR headset, along the lines of the Oculus Rift or Sony’s gaming-oriented Project Morpheus (sort of), and also claims that Samsung intends to have it on…

Determining the most valuable brand on the planet is a tough task but it can be done. Apple was put into that position by several research companies last year but Google has displaced the big fruit for 2014. Market research firm Millward Brown, which ranks brands based on a calculation of their value, has dropped Apple from the number one spot, a position that the company has held for three years running. Google’s brand value has increased, according to the firm, by 40% to just shy of $159 billion. Apple, which has fallen to second place, saw their own brand value…

GPS and (these days) wearable tech company Garmin has turned 25. Yup, the company has been making sat navs for a quarter of a century so far. In celebration, they’re offering a trade-in offer to South African buyers who are looking to buy or upgraded their GPS units at retailers – no, they’re not giving away anything. Instead, Garmin is offering customers a R300 trade-in value on a nüvi 55LM. The idea is that you can bring an old GPS – any old GPS, whether it’s working or not – to a participating retailer (the list of which includes Makro, Game,…

To make a detailed story short, online auction website eBay has been hacked and they’re recommending that all users change their passwords as soon as possible. User’s financial information, like credit card and PayPal details, remains secure but hackers have gained access to a collection of other information. eBay suffered an intrusion between the end of February and the beginning of March this year but the hack was only detected about two weeks ago. Financial data wasn’t taken but user passwords, which were encrypted, and other user data like names, email addresses, physical addresses and phone numbers, all of which…

Batman: Arkham Knight, the third game involving the Dark Knight to be made by developer Rocksteady, is expected to land around mid-October and we’re only now getting a decent look at some of the gameplay that will be in store for gamers on launch day. A new trailer, titled Evening The Odds, shows off a very small portion of what is due later this year and it’s looking… pretty good, actually. Not that we were expecting anything less. This time around, the whole city of Gotham looks to be taken over by criminals thanks to the Scarecrow but that’s not…

Samsung has confirmed the availability of their newest curved UHD at retail outlets in South Africa. We’ve known since February this year that Samsung’s newest panels were on the way for this country but it’s now official, with the TVs launching in SA at an event in Johannesburg. Getting your hands on one of these 4K screens isn’t going to be cheap though. The 65-inch model will set prospective buyers back some R70,000 while the 78-inch curved UHD TV will more than double that, costing R150,000. Samsung Electronics South Africa’s Ansgar Pabst said in a statement concerning the launch, “Following…

Spider-Man games have always faced problems, usually concerning a horrendous camera, but players have accepted most of those issues as par for the course. It’s really hard to develop a game that can accurately mimic the movements of a genetic aberration like the Spider-Man as he swings across New York at speed, scales walls and ceilings and bounces around kicking criminals in the back of the head from the front. That last bit makes more sense if you’re actually playing the game. Developer Beenox, who have been handling the outings of everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man for some time now, seemed…

The re-return of Wolfenstein is nigh, with the game having officially launched across the world yesterday. So far the early reviews have been largely positive, though Wolfenstein: The New Order has managed to update one or two reviewers. If you’re looking for how Stuff feels about the newest outing of BJ Blazkowicz, watch this space. There’s also a fairly new trailer for the game, which shows mostly footage for the cut-scene portions of the title (Warning: some of the language in the video above is NSFW). It comes across looking like a Hollywood blockbuster instead of a video game, which…

Internet service provider MWeb introduced South Africa to FON earlier this year, a WiFi network that allows subscribers to access an internet connection anywhere that FON coverage is available using their MWeb login details. Now, less than six months on, the FON network in South Africa has expanded enough to be visible on FON’s global map. MWeb users who participate in the FON network initiative use specific routers that broadcast an internet signal that can be used by passers-by, provided they’re also MWeb users. The total of WiFi hotspots of this nature in South Africa has now passed 24,000, making…
