So you think you’re a PC gamer, do you? Being a member of the Glorious PC Master Race, in South African terms, generally means having the best hardware and being able to take it someplace where other people can bask in the reflected glow of your awesomeness. But when you spend in excess of R30k on a gaming setup, it’s usually quite hard to move it into a car for a LAN. Usually. Tablets are a personal choice. Some folks will favour the various flavours of Android, others are solid iOS advocates – even though the choices are severely limited once you go down that road. Still others have found their bliss in Fire OS and then there are the Windows fans. Each option has something to commend it so we’ve collected a pick from each of the Big Four (it would be Five but we can’t think of another tablet OS worth speaking of – and the BlackBerry PlayBook doesn’t count). These are the current race leaders, though we’d be lying if…

It’s an age-old tale. A man’s family is murdered and he sets out to take revenge. That’s about it but in this case Marius Titus, the protagonist of Xbox One launch game Ryse: Son of Rome, goes about his revenge against the barbarians who have slain his mother, sister and father in a much more honourable fashion than your average story of blood and vengeance. But, since this game is set in ancient Rome, there is plenty of blood and more than a little vengeance to be had. Held in Thrall Ryse: Son of Rome is supposed to be a…

Nowaday when you think of wearable tech, a band around the wrist fitted with sensors and a screen is probably what comes to mind first. But it doesn’t have to be that way and, unlike other attempts to make wearable electronics that have turned out bulky, it could be quite fashionable. If you have the body for it, that is. Take a peek at Ralph Lauren’s smart shirt, called the Polo Tech shirt, that is going to be debuting on the tennis court. Tennis player Marcus Giron, who is rated number one in singles matches in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as…

Well what do you know, Facebook-owned WhatsApp continues to pile on new users at an increasing rate. From 250 million users in July last year to the half-billion mark in April this year (a doubling of users in less than a year), the company seems on track to bump up their numbers by another 250 million soon enough. The newest milestone for the company is 600 million active monthly users, an increase of 100 million users over the space of around four months. That’s a respectable enough figure over the period and might go some way towards justifying the massive…

Action cameras are typically considered an addition to the extreme lifestyle, whether you’re mountain-biking, surfing or riding on roads in Russia. It’s that last item that is important though because, before we got our hands on the Cansonic UDV-888, also known as the UltraDV, we hadn’t really considered using an action-cam in everyday circumstances. Intellectually we knew that it was possible for an action cam to be an almost mundane object but making the connection between camera and constant use was just something that wouldn’t happen until the UDV-888 crossed our desks. It was then that the benefits of having…
