We’re obviously interested in the coolest stuff you can actually buy at this year’s Comic Con. Well, just like Hollywood, let’s try that idea again, except with a twist. These are some of the items that you can’t buy at this year’s Comic Con Africa. They just happen to be hanging around. They’re not for sale. No, really. We asked.
Wall-E the Popcorn Machine
While wandering Hall 7 – which is the gaming hall – we happened upon Wall-E. No, not Pixar’s Wall-E, though that would be amazing. No, Wall-E the Popcorn Machine is exactly that. He’s a popcorn machine made entirely out of recycled hardware. Stuff like old controllers, PC parts – anything in that vein. He was made by Recyclex, which actually buys these parts and uses them to create pretty cool robots (and anything else they want). The head is a projector and the rest is… a bunch of stuff. Just take a look. It moves too, though only the head can do so. Even so, you certainly can’t buy it. And we really want to.
The Lego Table
Near KFC’s main stage, you’ll find the Lego Table. There are numerous (fully-built) pieces on display here. One stood out in particular – Optimus Prime, which we covered a little while back. Star Wars fans will really appreciate this location, as you’ll also find just about every set from the franchise. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration. But you’ll find loads of Star Wars in the vicinity. And please, don’t touch.
Anime Cars
As crazy as it sounds, there are full-size anime-themed cars at Comic Con. After awkwardly approaching the stand responsible for the cars and asking whether or not they were for sale, we can confirm that these are not for sale. If only we could give them a test drive. Or if they could come home with us. Though, if they could, they wouldn’t be on this list.
More Hot Toys
We found ourselves back at the Hobby Island stand, just staring in amazement at the huge statues on display. We already mentioned some earlier, but there’s something different about most of the lineup. You can’t buy them. They’re prototypes, if you can believe it. This explains why they’re under glass and behind ropes. It’s probably for the best that you can’t get your hands on them. Prototype or not, they look massively expensive.
