Pokémon is no stranger to weird and interesting collaborations. It has previously partnered with Samsung for a limited edition Galaxy Z Flip 3. That came in a Pokeball-themed box, with a red pouch for the phone. The latest collaboration is a lot more ambitious.
Remember the Mini Concept Aceman that the British car manufacturer revealed in July? Well, now there’s a Pikachu-themed edition. The concept from Mini and Pokémon was revealed at the Opening Night live event of Gamescom.
Mini, use projection
Like the Samsung, we aren’t talking about a completely custom car here. The Pikachu-themed Mini Aceman concept car will offer a “Pokémon mode” that uses an integrated external projector together with an internal projector and the car’s main OLED infotainment screen.
The internal screen will display the electric-yellow critter when the car is turned on and send projected lightning effects across the dashboard using the internal projector. The integrated external projector can be used for watching episodes of Pokémon, if the promo video is to be believed. And, like the famous Pokémon, the car will be electric too.
According to a report from The Verge, you’ll also be able to connect a console to the vehicle and use the external projector to display games. This will mean you’ll have to park in front of a relatively flat surface in the dark somewhere.
Unfortunately, Mini didn’t mention which consoles will work or if this will ever be more than just a concept. If this feature makes its way to the production vehicles sometime next year you can be sure we will let everyone know.
