Stuff’s editor-in-chief, Toby Shapshak, speaks to the marketing director at KaiOS, Tim Metz, to discuss feature phones that can run selected smartphone apps. KaiOS is an operating system that is very light and effective in how it uses power, which is perfect for feature phones.

A notable phone that runs KaiOS is the MTN Super S that costs a mere R300. KaiOS allows these devices, that would traditionally only text and make calls, to run WhatsApp, YouTube and even Facebook Lite.
