Building Lego Stranger Things, ‘The Upside Down’ – Eggos, Demogorgons and all

South Africa’s second Lego Certified Store opened in Menlyn today. One of the exclusive offers is the ingenious Stranger Things ‘The Upside Down’ set that we knew was coming. We got one to build a little ahead of time. With almost 2,500 pieces, the whole things took us around 11 hours… which our resident Lego expert (and digital editor, Brett Venter) predicted with surprising accuracy. Good call, Brett, good call.

Of course, we had to put together a video of the process. You can check it out below:

As you’d expect, there are plenty of clever references to the Netflix show, from each character’s accessories (Eggos for Eleven!) to the Demagorgon, the missing poster for Barbara, Hopper’s Hawkins Police Department SUV, and even an illuminating brick for the living room lights.
If you want to get your hands on a set of your own you can head to the Sandton or Menlyn Lego Official Stores, or visit the Great Yellow Brick website. The Stranger Things set is priced at R3,500 and is likely to sell out fast. While you’re there, do look out for the Mickey Mouse Steamboat Willie set and the irresistibly cool Ford Mustang.
