Okay, so there’s soon to be another stop for Star Wars superfans to make besides being stopped by security before making it inside the Skywalker Ranch. Disney has released the first image of upcoming Disneyland attraction Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
We’ve known for some time that the Star War universe was being added to the list of attractions in that spot where surprisingly many folks dump the ashes of their loves ones (look it up) but we previously haven’t seen anything besides concept art. An image is said to be worth a thousand words and this image says that the Star Wars nerds in our lives are going to be heading to Disneyland.
That is the Millennium Falcon you can see there, and the life-sized ship will be the home of Smuggler’s Run when the attraction opens in 2019. Attendees will be able to jump into the cockpit of the iconic ship and take on one of three roles in a mission for the Resistance. Roles which, apparently, will change how Smugglers Run plays out — depending on how good you are at making the Kessel Run, we guess. Space pirate Hondo Ohnaka and Chewbacca will be in attendance while you’re having the time of your life as well.
That’s not all that is on the cards for Star Wars fans. There’s a second attraction, called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, in the works that will see visitors to Galaxy’s Edge (Samsung better be a co-sponsor) checking out a battle between the Resistance and the First Order. How much audience participation is involved is to be revealed. We’d imagine more would be better, at least from the perspective of visitors. There’s also a cantina (which should look exactly how you’re picturing is now) and a marketplace to explore, and then there’s a whole Star Wars-themed resort being planned. For the seriously serious fans. But first up is Smuggler’s Run in 2019. Prepare for queues of people in robes waving their hands trying to get to the front of the line.
