Apple is giving away their original content… for free?

Earlier this year Apple announced that they are producing their own range of original shows. And initially, it sounded like a strange thing — for Apple to go up against the likes of Netflix and Amazon, but now it looks like they just want to spoil their users… or further ingrain their loyalty.

Anyone with an Apple device, be it iPhones, iPads, or Apple TVs (but not Macs, for reasons unknown), will receive free access to the fruit company’s streaming service. It’ll be available starting next year sometime — and will be accessed from a ‘TV’ app that’ll magically appear on each of these devices worldwide.

The upcoming video service will include a lineup of Apple original shows (that they’ve already started producing), combined with subscription services from legacy media companies like HBO and Starz (Lionsgate’s cable channel) — but this could finally give South Africans proper access to HBO (rather than having to rely on DStv or Showmax’s buying decisions). That’s great news for Game of Thrones fans — if the service launches before the final season runs its course.

Apple plans to roll out the brand new app in early 2019, according to a report on CNBC. We’ll let you know once we know more about this feature, and of course whether it will be available locally.
