Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse gets even more Spider-Folks

It was back in June that we saw the first trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which showed off a world in which there was more than one Spider-Person running about. The second trailer for the upcoming Sony film has dropped and there will be even more Spider-Beings running around than we expected.

Several of the heroes from various Spider-Man universes are present in Sony’s animated flick. Peter Parker (Spider-Man Prime, we guess — Jake Johnson), Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), and Gwen Stacy (as Spider-Gwen — Hailee Steinfeld) are the arachnids we already knew about from the first trailer, but the second one has also revealed that Spider-Man Noir (technically Peter Parker from the 1930s, played by Nicholas Cage), Spider-Ham (Peter Porker, voiced by comedian John Mulaney), and Peni Parker (an anime-style sentient spider-robot pilot, portrayed by Kimiko Glenn) are going to be pitching up for the adventure. That’s a lot of spiders.

And we’ve also got a better idea of where the story is going and who the villains are. The Spider-Crew seem to have been pulled into Miles Morales’ universe by a supercollider incident (involving the Kingpin) that drags Peter Parker and co. through from their home grounds. They’re going to have to save Morales’ Brooklyn from the supercollider and get themselves home — but there will be opposition.

It’s not explicit in the trailer but we’ll likely also see villains pulled though from parallel universes — because six Spideys fighting the villains from a single universe doesn’t seem fair. We do get a closer look at some of the villains — Wilson Fisk (Kingpin) is prominent but there’s what looks to be an organic version of Scorpion being a menace as usual, and we got a glimpse at the Green Goblin. Tombstone and Prowler also show up, doing the things they do. We’re expecting a few more opponents to be revealed, either in a new trailer or as a surprise in the film itself. Which looks amazing, appropriately.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to premiere overseas on 14 December, while South Africans will be able to get their arachnid experience from 21 December this year.
