Nintendo reveals Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Switch and this time they’ve included everyone

Nintendo had a lot to show at their E3 2018 presentation and we’ll get to those reveals in a bit but the game that we’ve been looking forward to most, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, was finally named and detailed in the company’s presentation. And it looks good. System-seller good. The least of the reasons for this greatness is the massive character roster.

If you want to watch the full Nintendo character reveal, you’ll have to bank on at least 25 minutes of your time. There are almost 70 characters joining the roster for this release, including every past Smash Bros. fighter. Metal Gear Solid‘s Snake is back from Brawl, Bayonetta’s coming from the Wii U game and even Pichu from Melee will make an appearance. Hey, when Ninty says they’ve invited everyone, they mean EVERYONE.

The small touches that the series is known for are in full effect here. Character outfits subtly change character outlines, rather than just being a flat reskin, and Nintendo have also made tweaks to character skills and smashes. They’ve outlined a few of the changes you can expect when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches at the end of the year but we fully expect a raft of others to be finalised by launch day.

But Nintendo’s not just bringing back the old faces. There are two new additions confirmed — the Inklings from Splatoon and then the long-requested Ridley from Metroid are going to be joining the fight. Ridley got its own reveal trailer — that’s how long players have been waiting for this one.

Oh, and one last thing… your Gamecube controllers will work with the Switch in docked mode. You’re going to need a USB adaptor, the same type that was used to connect controllers with the Wii U. If you happen to have an adaptor and a few Gamecube controllers handy (and if you’re a Smash fan, you should) then you’ll be able to use them at launch.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch for the Nintendo Switch on 7 December 2018. This is going to be a long wait…
