Samsung to detail Note 7 explosion causes ‘soon’

Samsung is probably hoping to finally see the back of last year’s Galaxy Note 7 mess but before that can happen, everyone is going to want to know just what went wrong. For some it’s curiosity, for others it’s a matter of trust, but Samsung isn’t going to be sweeping this under the rug. They can’t afford to.

And the company knows that, which is why Samsung’s American president and COO Tim Baxter last night pointed out that the company would be sharing the results of the Note 7 investigation “soon”.

Speaking at CES 2017 in Las Vegas, Baxter said that 2016 had proved to be a “challenging year” for the company, which could be a bit of an understatement. He went on to say that the company is listening to third-party experts involved in the ongoing investigation, in order “…understand what happened, and to make sure it does not happen again.” And once they’ve done that, they’ll be letting us know what happened. Soon.

‘Soon’, in this case, probably equates to later this month, according to reports that emerged from South Korea before Samsung’s event last night. Reuters reported that Samsung would be making the details of its investigation public, citing information from newspaper JoongAng Ilbo. We’ll be keeping our eyes open so that we can finally get some closure on the Note 7 mess — not that we’re likely to forget this one. Ever.
