The King is back with Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour

Last week (and last month, if you want to get technical) we saw that there was a teaser for a new Duke Nukem-related announcement. The time has come and gone and we’ve got the details. Rather than a whole new Duke Nukem game we’re going to be getting a revamped Duke Nukem 3D.

Called Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour, players will find themselves in for a slightly tweaked version of the original game. The original four episodes are going to be joined by a fifth, comprising eight new levels which were put together by original creators Allen Blum III and Richard “Levelord” Gray.

The old gang has teamed up for most of this outing, in fact. Duke’s original voice actor, Jon St. Jon, has re-recorded all of the original dialogue and added a swathe of new stuff. We daresay a few of the infamous lines were left untouched but it’ll be interesting to see what else they’ve come up with. Composer Lee Jackson is also back, providing music for the updated game.

There’s a single new enemy type, called the Firefly, and Duke will be getting an Incinerator to help deal with the new threat. Multiplayer hasn’t been neglected either. Eight players will be able to go head-to-head, or you can work on your skills solo against up to seven bots. The game’s original engine has also been spruced up for the re-release.

Duke’s newest old outing will launch on 11 October, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Steam has the game listed for R220, Microsoft’s store has it up for pre-order for R170 (with a 12 October launch date), and Sony’s local store doesn’t have it listed just yet.
