PlayStation Now, official DualShock 4 support headed to Mac, Windows

Sony’s PlayStation Now streaming service, an offering that isn’t officially supported in South Africa yet, is going to be heading to more than just the PlayStation 4 soon. Sony says that they will be expanding PlayStation Now, a subscription service that lets players stream PlayStation 3 games over the internet and onto the PlayStation 4 console, to Windows and Apple desktop and laptop machines as well.

The launch will be happening in Europe first before spreading over to North America. and you will need a specific set of hardware in order to stream PlayStation 3 games to your PC but the requirements aren’t as weighty as you might expect. Technically, you could play PS3 games on a low-end notebook (so… a Mac, then). According to The Verge you will need:

    • Windows 7 (SP1), 8.1 or 1
    • 3.5 GHz Intel Core i3 or 3.8 GHz AMD A10 or faster
    • 300 MB or more; 2 GB or more of RAM
    • Sound card; USB port

DS4 DongleBesides the computer, you’re going to need a way to control your games. Sony has also announced a wireless dongle that will allow a DualShock 4 to connect to a desktop or notebook computer. The add-on hasn’t been cleared for South African launch yet but pricing for the States is available — It should cost between R350 and R400 ($24.99) to have some official Sony PlayStation support if you want to get your DualShock 4 working on Windows. Or on a Mac, if that’s the way you roll.

The DualShock 4 dongle is expected to roll out in September this year, so we should be seeing the PlayStation Now expansion happening at the same time. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for South African launch dates, if any become available.

Up next? Sony’s PlayStation event on 7 September.
