We’re familiar with HP’s Omen range of PCs but we’re used to seeing the brand on notebooks. The HP Omen X is something different, a desktop machine that looks like it dropped whole and breathing out of a cyberpunk movie.
HP isn’t known for its gaming chops but the Omen X looks like an opportunity to change all that. It has been designed to look like a large glowing cube, in the Omen lineup’s trademark black and red. It’s more than just a pretty design, however.
The Omen X has been made to sit on a point, allowing for air-cooling from all sides. The cube shape has been divided into three sections, each of which can be individually cooled. Or, as HP puts it, the Omen X has “…support for up to three 120mm liquid cooling radiators with top mounted exhaust vents.”

On the hardware front the company has been a little more vague. A 6th-gen Core i5 or i7 from Intel is an option, and they’ve said that they’re including a “…VR-ready GPU”, which translates into up to two new Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs, if you’re splashing out all of the money. Lucky you.
A new Omen 17 notebook is also on the cards, as well as a curved display and a range of Omen-branded peripherals made for HP by SteelSeries. A headset, keyboard, mouse, and mousepad will plump out the roster there.
Pricing for South Africa has yet to be confirmed but the Omen X will be coming to this country. Eventually. That hasn’t been confirmed either. Costs in Euro have been revealed and the units start at €2,299 (around R35,000 — which will be the entry-level Omen X). Just the chassis will run buyers at least €599 (R9,050). South African pricing will likely be different than a direct conversion, however. We’ll be updating once local information becomes available.
